Virgin Voyages today announced their very first captain – ever! Hailing from the northeast coast of Quebec, Canada, Captain Wendy Williams is quite ready for her role on the Scarlet Lady.

Captain Wendy will be the first Canadian woman in history to captain a ship for a major cruise brand.

The new captain notes that her primary focus will be the crew of the ship.

“If you’re the heart of the ship and your heart’s in the wrong place, then you’re not going to have a good ship. I’ve always been known as the captain with a heart.”

“I intend to be the best captain I can be and love every moment of it.”

Captain Wendy has over three decades of history in seafaring – starting as a deckhand with a commercial fishing outfit, an observer and then working in all areas on her own vessels.

Captain Wendy attended the British Columbia Institute of Technology, Pacific Marine Institute located in Vancouver, BC.

The “Scarlet Lady” most recently floated out of its ship builder, Fincantieri, in February, 2019 and currently is being outfitted. Due to start sailing from Miami to ports in the Caribbean in 2020, the adults only, 17-deck ship has a capacity of nearly 2800 passengers and 1100 crew members.
