Royal Caribbean Cancels 2020 Sailings in UK for Independence of the Seas
In anticipation of high demand for passengers wanting to have their own “Perfect Day” at CocoCay, Royal Caribbean today announced that they have cancelled all 2020 sailings on the Independence of the Seas, departing from the UK.
As such, the summer schedule of nearly 20 sailings from Southampton, UK has been cancelled and the ship will now be sailing from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
On social media, Royal Caribbean is seeing major push-back from passengers who had previously scheduled cruises. As consolation, a full refund has been provided, along with a credit for future cruising with Royal Caribbean.
The sailings for the Independence of the Seas currently scheduled out of Southhampton will continue until November 2019, when she returns to Fort Lauderdale.
The Independence of the Seas is a 155,000 ton ship carrying over 3,800 passengers and recently completed a massive upgrade in May 2018 as part of the “Royal Amplified” program. This upgrade included new waterslides and its now (temporarily closed) SkyPad VR-bungee jumping attraction.
