The Ocean Traveler embarked on Friday, June 7th for a short 3-night cruise aboard the Norwegian Sky.
The Sky was recently refurbished throughout including many common areas, lounges, restaurants and cabins.
We took a cruise on the Sky in September-2018, and let’s just say it was good timing that they had a scheduled dry dock to refurbish— it was in tough condition. However, when we entered the NCL Sky on Friday – we were WOW’ed!
Parking at PortMiami was easy; finding a spot in the parking garage and then lugging our bag and carry-on to the baggage handler by the curb. Entering the terminal we had a very short wait- maybe 5-minutes and check-in was a breeze as we did most of the paperwork well in advance. We received our boarding cards and walked right on the ship!
About 10-minutes after being on the ship, the cabins were announced to be available and we made our way to Deck-10 aft.
Our cabin, on the 10th deck, port side, aft, with balcony was nicely redone with updated carpeting, bedding, wall panels, new door/windows and new TV’s. Our only issue, the lights (which now have a USB charging port) are directly above your head- they’re sharp cornered and likely need to be in a different spot otherwise you’ll knock your head!
Day 1 – Miami and heading towards Key West. We started out the evening with a rain storm as we sailed through the inlet to the Atlantic. It was very smooth sailing; the seas were nearly flat all evening.
Dinner; we ate at Cagney’s Steakhouse. A premium restaurant on the Sky. We made same day reservations and had more or less the pick of the time we wanted to dine.
Service at Cagney’s was excellent; the servers were attentive and helpful for selections.
… and to top off Cagney’s was some delicious deserts! Cheesecake and Apple crisp with vanilla ice cream.
We rounded out the evening people watching (always a good time) and hanging out by the pool… going to bed early knowing we had a BUSY day planned for Key West!
Stay tuned for Day-2, when we’re visiting Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas!
